A link is just a connection from the current web page to a different web page.

Usually a link is made up of just plain underlined text, but graphics can be links too (such as a banner, described above).

Which should you use?

Usually, you can create and maintain plain text links must more easily and quickly than banners that act as links. 

However, banners can have more visual appeal, due to their graphic nature.
